Cervantes Institute announces huge demand for free online translation service

Automatic translator del Cervantes made 582,000 translations

The Automatic Translator of the Cervantes Institute, (cervantes.es/traduccionAutomatica) has been making free more than 582,000 translations from his beginning for now a year, with which he has passed to other languages 200 million words, the institute informed.

The services more demanded by the users are the translation of English to Spanish (the 23 percent), followed of Spanish Catalan (21 percents) and of Spanish to English (13 percents).

During this year, that finishes beginning, Gallego between the languages available will include itself, so that soon translations of Spanish to Gallego will be able to be solicitd vice versa and.

The next year the service will also extend the Spanish-euskera and vice versa. This way, the Automatic Translator will count between his services with the three coofficial languages in Spain. To means and length term, they will also include Italian, German, Russian, Arab and the Chinese.

This service allows to translate texts and text files, as well as pages Web, of Catalan, French, English the Spanish to or the Portuguese and vice versa.

The Automatic Translator of the Cervantes Institute began to work the 10 of January of the 2005. Since then, the demand of this gratuitous service sponsored by Telephone has not stopped to increase, with a rate of growth of until the 55 monthly percent.

Its objective, according to the Cervantes Institute, is to facilitate the access in Spanish to those contents of the society of the information that are developed in other languages, and that the hablantes of other languages can accede to the contents that are only available in Spanish.

Several ministries and deprived universities, as well as companies, include connections in their pages of Internet to the service of automatic translation, with the purpose of as much providing a better service to their external users as to their own personal.
