A 71 year old retired Guardia Civil shot his 68 year old wife, his 35 year old daughter, then turned the gun on himself. The incident occurred shortly before 5pm at the couple's home on Antilla beach in Lepe (Huelva). Although neither of the women died in the attack, both were seriously injured.
The daughter, who was shot in the head, was airlifted by helicopter to Sevilla's Virgen del Rocío Hospital, where she was operated on immediately. Her mother, who was shot in the back, was taken to Huelva's Infanta Elena Hospital. The retired officer was also still alive when emergency services arrived on the scene, but died shortly after being admitted to Huelva's Juan Ramón Jiménez Hospital.
According to the couple's son-in-law, who was first on the scene, his wife had popped up to make her parents a cup of coffee shortly before the shooting.
The retired officer, who was originally from Fregenal de la Sierra (Badajoz) moved to Lepe after his retirement, and his daughter and her husband, who is a serving Guardia Civil officer, owned an apartment in the same building -the La Pinta building on the calle Luis Grau (photo)- which they used for weekends and holidays.
During a search of the flat, investigators found not only the gun used in the attack, which was the retired officer's service weapon, but also a second pistol.
