| The president of Repsol-YPF in Bolivia, Julio Gavita, resigned yesterday to focus on fighting charges against him resulting from an investigation into unlawful trading by the Spanish subsidiary.
Mr Gavita, who said that his decision was based on personal considerations, is accused of being personally involved in the illegal exportation of 230,000 barrels of crude oil worth $9.2 million (€7.7 million) by the Repsol subsidiary, Andina, between June 2004 and July 2005.
He will be replaced as vice-president of Andina and president of Repsol-YPF by Luis García Sánchez.
In a statement to journalists, Mr Gavita said that he had decided to take a career break to fight to protect his own and the reputations of his fellow workers, and insisted that the charges against him lack substance. |
