Cataluña Emergency Services have cancelled the Nuclear Emergency Plan at the Vandellós II plant near Tarragona that was activated yesterday as a result of a serious forest fire that also forced the temporary closure of the AP-7 motorway (photo), the N-340 national road and railway line.

The fire, which has already affected 1,200 hectares of pine forest and pasture land, started at 5.12pm yesterday afternoon near the town of Vandellós i l'Hospitalet de l'Infant.

As a precautionary mesaure, 120 holidaymakers were evacuated from the Templo del Sol campsite in Vandellós as well as 21 others from the Cala d'Oques site.

78 fire engines supported by hydroplanes resumed work to control the perimeter at first light this morning, although their work is being hampered by strong winds with gusts of up to 100 km an hour.
