| Catalan nationalists struck again yesterday at a meeting organised by the Partido Popular and where they keynote speaker was set to be PP general secretary Angel Acebes. Despite changing the venue at the last minute, this did not prevent the nationalists from carrying out yet another series of intimidations against a high-ranking members of the opposition. As they left the meeting, they managed to get into their official cars that were beaten, rocked and spat on by the protesters, who called the PP "terrorists," "assassins" and "fascists."
Curiously, a few hours prior to these incidents, the Cadena SER radio station broadcast an "information bulletin" in which it revealed the location of the next meeting that PP leader Mariano Rajoy is to present in Barcelona.
Jose Montilla, a director of the Catalan socialist party and the current Industry minister stated that both the PP and the demonstrators were equal "as the provocative attitude of the PP clearly shows that they do not belong in a democracy."
Commenting on this string of violent attacks aganst members of his party, Mr Acebes stated: "We are the only nation inside Europe where an opposition party is physically attacked with the complacency of the government." |
