| Dani Pedrosa (500cc), Jorge Lorenzo (250cc) and Alvaro Bautista (125cc) achieved Spain's second ever clean sweep at Donington Park yesterday since the MotoGP tournament began forty-seven years ago. The only other time Spanish riders have won all three races was at Le Mans in 2003 with wins for Gibernau, Elías and Pedrosa.
The day started with a win for Jorge Lorenzo who had dominated in qualifying and the warm-up. The Mallorcan had Dovizioso on his back tyre for most of the first half of the race until the Italian fell off. He got back on to finish sixth, however, and retains overall leadership after nine races, but now only one point clear of Lorenzo who notched up his fifth win of the season.
In the second race, Dani Pedrosa (photo) swept to his second 500cc victory, finishing well clear of Melandri and Rossi. Pedrosa now lies second in the rider's championship, 26 points behind Honda teammate Nicky Hayden, but nine points clear of Rossi.
In the third and final race of the day, Álvaro Bautista eased to his fourth win of the season to stretch his overall lead to 52 points over Mika Kallio in second. |
