Two people died yesterday morning and another seven were injured when a fire broke out in a second floor apartment on the calle Dolz de Castellar in Sagunto (photo).

One of those killed was a 15 year old boy who jumped out of a window in an attempt to escape the blaze. Emergency service workers found he had second and third degree burns on his face and body. Despite being taken to La Fe Hospital, he died within minutes of arrival.

His brother also suffered burns to his hands and ears, and is in the Intensive Care Unit at La Fe, whilst their mother was also treated for her burns, and later discharged.

The other death was that of an 80 year old woman who happened to be in the apartment block at the time the fire broke out, whilst a 62 year old man suffered seventy degree burns, and is in hospital where his state was said to be "critical."

An investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of the blaze.
