| Nobody was injured in a bomb attack on Barakaldo's Lutxana station shortly before 1am this morning, but the explosion of at least two devices started a fire that has caused substantial material damage.
Firemen worked throughout the night to deal with the blaze that destroyed the station lobby, and train services resumed at around 6am. Apart from the fire damage, some debris fell onto the tracks, damaging the fibre optic cable which enables communication between stations.
This is the third and "most serious" attack on the station, according to local mayor, Tontxu Rodríguez, who urged "caution" before attributing blame, before adding: "But this is not the path towards peace and freedom. The only thing this achieves is to disrupt daily life."
Services from Bilbao to Santurce and Muskiz have been affected, although passengers are reported to be experiencing delays of only around 15 minutes. |
