| Retired school teacher, Kim Pérez (archive photo, 2002), has become the first transsexual woman to stand for election in Spain.
Ms Pérez, who is currently the president of Andalucía's Gender Identity Association, will be standing for the United Left (IU) party at the municipal elections in Granada at the end of next month.
She told reporters yesterday that she believes her candidacy to be "hugely significant," because it shows that transsexuals are beginning to integrate "normally in all aspects of social life. |
