| The 'El Bulli' restaurant in Roses (Girona) has been voted the best restaurant in the world for the third year in a row by the prestigious 'Restaurant' magazine.
Two other Spanish restaurants, both of which are in the Basque region - 'Mugaritz' (4th) and Arzak (eighth) - feature in this year's top ten, and, with seven top fifty restaurants, Spain sit third behind only France, who top the list with 10, and the USA (8).
Heston Blumenthal's 'The Fat Duck' in Berkshire came in second ahead of Pierre Gagnaire's restaurant in Paris, which he named after himself.

The 'El Bulli' restaurant, which is owned by Spanish chef, Ferrán Adria (photo, right), and situated near the town of Roses (Girona), has been chosen as the best restaurant in the world by the prestigious 'Restaurant' magazine for the second year in a row. Indeed, this is the third time the restaurant has topped the list having also won the title in 2001, and has not been out of the top three for the last six years.
There are five other Spanish establishments in the list of the world's top fifty restaurants: the 'Mugaritz' in Rentería (7th), the 'Arzak' in San Sebastián (10th), the 'El Celler de Can Roca' in Girona (11th), the 'Can Fabes' in Sant Celoni (22nd), and the 'Martin Berasategui' in Lasarte (27th).
With a total of six representatives, Spain lies in joint fourth place with Italy, and behind the UK (7), the USA (8) and France (12). |
