A total of 180 children from Belarus will spend this summer with families from Lorca. The children are from Chernobyl, the city that suffered a terrible nuclear accident in 1986 that has had terrible health, economic and social consequences.

Organisers recalled the tragedy suffered by the Belarussian people: "Many of you have children of the same age, between six and seven years old. Imagine what the parents must be going through for them to put their kids on a bus that will take them so far away, knowing that they won't see them again for fifty days," said one to the families who will be taking the children in.
