| The regional government of Andalucía has ordered for the movement of all farms animals within a 150km radius of the farm in Tarifa identified as the point of origin of an outbreak of 'blue tongue' disease, to be strictly controlled. This means that all livestock transported within the quarantine area will require medical certification.
The farm where the disease was detected has a flock of 298 sheep and a herd of 56 cows. The photo shows a sheep on the affected farm feeding one of its lambs.
According to a spokesman from the Andalucía Veterinary Services deparftment, the outbreak was detected as part of a routine testing process outlined in the national 'blue tongue' vigilance programme implemented by the government six years ago to control the disease. |
