| A transport plane with 100 tonnes of materials and 13 rescue and healthcare experts will leave Spain at 8pm this evening bound for Pisco in Peru. Further emergency services reinforcements are also expected to leave Spain today on scheduled flights.
The government's secretary for International Cooperation, Leire Pajín (photo, right), said that: "This will not be the last plane we send. We have just started the humanitarian effort that will continue for as long as necessary and according to the necessities that are being defined by the Peruvian authorities."
Ms Pajín went on to explain that she has met with the Peruvian ambassador in Spain, Luis Pérez Sánchez-Cerro (photo, left), who gave details of the worst affected areas and handed over a "list of requirements." The materials being sent today consist mostly of temporary accomodation, medical supplies and electricity generators. |
