| The badly decomposed remains of an eight tonne sperm whale that washed up on Valencia's Patacona Beach yesterday morning, have been removed. The corpse was spotted near the Vera water purification plant, that is right on the border between Valencia city and Alboraya, at around 9am by a Local Police patrol, and although they were only a few bathers on the beach at the time, a large crowd of curious passers-by soon appeared.
A rear-mounted eight-tonne digger, a swivel digger, a three-axled lorry and a 4x4 all-terrain vehicle were used to clear the beach while researchers from Valencia's Polytechnic University took samples of the dead whale away for analysis. The immediate area was cordoned off and the red danger flag was hoisted until it was confirmed that the water was once again declared clean and safe to bathe in. |
