Thirteen revellers were injured last night when a rocket exploded on the ground during the annual summer festival in Montehermoso.

The two most seriously injured were a 20 year old man, who is recovering satisfactorily from abdominal injuries, and a 58 year old woman, who suffered facial burns, but has already been discharged after receiving treatment at the Virgen del Puerto Hospital in Plasencia.

Eleven others, aged between 2 and 71, were treated at the local health centre.

The incident occurred shortly before 11pm near Montehermoso church.
