| According to an article in today's El Pais, socialists in Navarra will step up the pressure on Miguel Sanz's minority right wing regional government to lift the ban on abortions being performed in the region. Twenty-two years after the practice was legalised in Spain, Navarra remains the only region to still deny women this right.
As no public or private clinic currently offers this treatment in the region, Navarran women wishing to abort are currently forced to travel to private clinics in Bilbao, Zaragoza or Madrid. These clinics have contracts in place with the Navarran regional health authority, which meets the full cost of patients' travel, treatment and meal expenses. |
