|  Santander mayor, Iñigo de la Serna (PP), announced yesterday that the equestrian statue of former fascist dictator, General Francisco Franco, will be removed from the Town Hall square next May when construction work on the new underground car park is scheduled to begin.
Mr De la Serna also confirmed that a Republican shield will be removed from the square "simultaneously."
The mayor was speaking at a press conference during which he also confirmed that the new Alfonso XIII underground car park will be completed by the end of this month or the start of November, and after that, at the start of January, a four-month project to refurbish Pombo square will begin. |
