| 20 year old Jorge Lorenzo finished third in today's Malaysian Grand Prix, which was enough to retain the world 250cc title he first won last season.
Lorenzo, who finished behind race winner, Hiroshi Aoyama, and compatriot, Héctor Barberá, is the third Spanish rider to win back-to-back titles after Dani Pedrosa and Sito Pons achieved the same feat.
The flamboyant young Mallorcan rider, who celebrated his victory by dressing up as cinematic boxing legend, Rocky Balboa, will follow Dani Pedrosa into MotoGP with the Yamaha team next season.
His victory continues a run of five seasons of Spanish world title success: Dani Pedrosa (125cc, 2003: 250cc, 2004 and 2005), Bautista (125cc, 2006) and Lorenzo (250cc, 2006 and 2007).
In total, Spain has now won 31 world motorcycling titles. |
