A 36 year old man who burst into a church and smashed the baptismal font with a large adjustable spanner as worshippers were celebrating Sunday evening mass last night, was arrested by National Police officers at the scene, and has since been charged with damaging a historical building and offending religious feeling.

The incident occurred at around 7.30pm yesterday evening at Corpus Christi Church on the calle Elvira in Granada.

The man, who was wearing a clown's costume and make-up, has been arrested on twelve previous occasions for a variety of different offences.
