| Concepción Iglesias Álvarez, one of a cell of four ETA terrorists charged with plotting to murder King Juan Carlos in Palma de Malloca in the summer of 1995, was arrested this morning near her home in the south of France. Álvarez, who was neither armed nor carrying false identity papers, offered no resistance as she was taken into custody near Bayona at around 8.15am.
The girlfriend of former ETA leader, Javier 'Kantauri' Arizkuren Ruiz, Álvarez travelled to Mallorca on the 27th July 1995 to liaise with three other terrorists, who were eventually arrested on the 9th August, just four days before they were planning to carry out a plot to assassinate the Spanish king.
Álvarez, who was pregnant at the time, evaded capture, but was charged 'in absentia' by the Spanish High Court in February 1996 with attempting to murder the head of state, belonging to a terrorist organisation, identity document fraud, and for possession of explosives and weapons of war. |
