| Referee Pérez Riverol had to end last Saturday's Córdoba-Albacete match at the Arcangel stadium in Cordoba with two minutes of extra-time still left on the clock after a late Albacete equaliser prompted a barrage of stones and bottles from the home terraces.
After consulting with his assistants, the referee decided to bring the players off and needed to be escorted from the pitch himself by police officers carrying riot shields.
Following the game a large number of home fans gathered at the players' exit to continue throwing missiles at the Castilla La Mancha team before they were dispersed with a police charge, resulting in several arrests.
The scale of the punishment to be handed down to the club has yet to be confirmed. |
