| Work on the Montabliz viaduct, which is part of the new A-67 Cantabria-La Meseta Freeway, was completed yesterday by the Ferrovial company contracted to build it.
Although it is expected to open within the next few weeks, it will not be officially inaugurated until after the 9th March as a result of the ban imposed by president Zapatero on such events in the run-up to the general elections.
The new bridge measures 145 metres at its highest point, making it the highest in Spain and the sixth highest in Europe.
It spans the Bisueña River valley, is 705 metres long and has been built at a cost of €26 million euros.
The new bridge is part of one of the most expensive stretches of freeway ever constructed in Spain (the 12km stretch between Molledo and Pesquera), costing €162 million euros to date at an average of €13.7 million per kilometre. |
