| Development minister Magdalena Alvarez (photo, centre) has divulged plans for a direct high-speed AVE train link between Barcelona and Málaga that will not pass through Madrid. However, the initiative is still very much in the early planning stage and so details such as cost or completion date cannot be confirmed.
The project consists in constructing a 'by-pass' joining the Barcelona-Madrid line in the north with the Madrid-Málaga line in the south, and is expected to shave around five hours off the journey of a passenger travelling between Barcelona and Málaga.
The high-speed train link between Málaga and Sevilla is expected to open on the 20th February. There will be six stops - Málaga, Antequera, Puente Genil, Córdoba and Sevilla - and journey times between Málaga and Córdoba and Málaga and Sevilla will be 65 and 115 minutes respectively - the latter being around 35 minutes less than currently.
Tickets between Málaga and Sevilla will oscilate betwen €33 for a single ticket, dropping to €15.18 as part of a 44-ticket deal. Tickets between Málaga and Córdoba will cost €19.05 one-way, falling to €8.76 each for a 44-ticket pass. |
