| A framed print of the ETA logo was confiscated by National Police officers yesterday afternoon at the home of Batasuna leader Pernando Barrena, who was present throughout the two-hour search following his arrest earlier in the day. Three boxes of documents were also taken away for inspection.
The Navarran leader of the banned party Patxi Urrutia was also arrested yesterday though police are still looking for a third member of the group, Unai Fano Aldasora. All three men participated in an event in Pamplona last Saturday during which details of conversations involving Batasuna, PNV and the socialist PSE-EE parties that took place during the ceasefire, were revealed.
19 members of Batasuna's 38-strong leadership council remain in preventive custody following their arrests in October 2007.
Since then, Barrena has continued to act as the party's spokesman and has taken part in a number of public events and press conferences.
It is expected that Barrena and Urrutia will appear before Judge Baltasar Garzón this Thursday, and it seems likely that they will also be remanded.

National Police officers have been searching the home of Batasuna leader Pernando Barrena, who was arrested this morning in Berriozar on the orders of High Court anti-terror judge Baltasar Garzón.
Also arrested was Patxi Urrutia, a fellow member of the banned party's leadership council, who was last arrested in October 2007 only to be released on €24,000 euros bail just a few days later.
The two men are accused of belonging to a terrorist organisation and of continuing to represent Batasuna despite the ban. |
