| After previous visits in 1997 and 1997, King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía arrived in El Cairo this afternoon at the start of a three-day state visit.
They are being accompanied by Foreign Affairs minister Miguel Angel Moratinos, Industry, Commerce and Tourism minister Joan Clos and representatives from more than fifty Spanish firms.
An official reception for 700 leading members of Egypt's expat Spanish community will be held this evening before a private dinner engagement with Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak at the Presidential Palace.
Tomorrow, the king's busy agenda includes a meeting with PM Ahmed Nafiz as well as an audience with the general secretary of the Arabic League Amro Musa while Queen Sofía will be visiting the Saqara stepped pyramid and the Children's Cancer Hospital, which is recognised as being one of the region's best-equipped.
On Wednesday, King Juan Carlos will chair a meeting of the Hispano-Egyptian economic forum and inaugurate an exhibition organised by the Casa Arabe and partly funded by the EFE news agency. |
