| French farmers have been stopping lorries transporting Spanish salad vegetables and wine at a motorway roadblock in Gallargues le Montueux to destroy the cargoes to protest that they do not meet the requirements of French legislation, which they claim has led to lower prices.
This is the third time French farmers have staged protests of this type, the first being in 1994, when the-then French Agriculture minister Ferdinand Puech was forced to implement emergency measures that were not completely successful in bringing an end to the attacks.
However, in 2002, it was left to the Spanish salad vegetable and wine producers themselves to petition the EU to impose sanctions on France. |
