| The president of the Basque PP party, María San Gil (photo, far right - white blouse), was the target of a violent protest staged by around thirty students during a visit to Santiago de Compostela University yesterday.
One of Ms Gil's bodyguards and two police officers were slightly injured in a scuffle inside the Economics Faculty, where she was taking part in a conference that was also attended by leading members of the Galician branch of the party.
Some reports indicate that the protesters are members of the Radical Independence Group, though a student spokesman said that "they're just Santiago University students, and don't belong to any political group."
During the demonstration, the protesters called Ms San Gil a "fascist," demanded that the PP be banned, and one can even be heard calling for Ms San Gil's assassination (¡Que te maten!).
No arrests were made though one or two of the protesters also picked minor injuries. |
