| Although the Consumer Price Index (IPC) fell six tenths of a per cent last month, at 4.3%, the interannual rate is the highest since December 1995 and one tenth of a per cent higher than at the end of December 2007.
During last month there was a significant decline in clothing and footwear prices (-11.9%) as a result of January sales activity, and holiday and car prices also fell.
On the other side of the coin, however, bread, fresh fish, leisure, power, alcohol and tobacco prices all rose.
While food and non-alcoholic beverage prices rose by just 0.5% last month, these are now 7% higher than at the end of January 2007. |
