A 25 year old man living in southern Tenerife has been arrested accused of swindling his fellow residents out of hundreds of euros by using the emergency telephone in the building's lift to make private overseas calls.

The scam came to light after the president of the residents' association contacted the police following receipt of a telephone bill for €700.
