Only minor smoke damage was caused to the frontage of PSOE party headquarters in León in a molotov cocktail attack by a gang of unidentified individuals during the early hours of this morning.

Accompanied by provincial party leader Teodoro Martínez, the leading socialist candidate for León and current Defence minister José Antonio Alonso has condemned the incident, which is being investigated by the National Police.

For his part, Mr Martínez has described the perpetrators as "savages."

The incident occurred at around 3am.
