| Rodrigo de Santos has paid back the €50,804 euros of tax payers' money he squandered on drugs and gay prostitutes during his time as deputy mayor of Palma de Mallorca, blaming 'health problems' for the aberration.
Already suspended by the Partido Popular, De Santos has since been given a lower profile job with less responsibility in the municipal tax office where he is now employed.
'Former PP councillor spent €45,000 of public money on gay prostitutes' By: thinkSPAIN Friday, March 14, 2008
Rodrigo de Santos has been temporarily suspended from the Partido Popular after being accused of spending €45,000 on male prostitutes using a Town Hall credit card. Mr De Santos, who now works as a civil servant, was in charge of town planning at Palma Town Hall from 2003-2007.
The investigation started on February 20th this year after a written communication to the state prosecution department from the town's new socialist mayoress Aina Calvo, who had detected a number of financial irregularities in the accounts of the previous PP-led administration.
The money was spent between the end of 2005 and the end of May 2007, coinciding exactly with Mr De Santos' spell as the town's deputy mayor.
All the payments were made between 4-7am at a variety of notorious homosexual brothels in and around Palma.
