| The Nou Campanar chapter won first prize for the fifth year in a row with 'Cuanto cuento' by local artist Pedro Santaeulalia.
At over 30 metres high and costing €900,000 euros, it is both the biggest and most expensive falla ever built.
Santaeulalia and his team actually did extremely well to repair damage caused when one of the angels at the top of the monument fell during erection in high winds just hours before the panel of judges was due to visit.
Santaeulalia has now won six first prizes, having previously won in 2002 before his five back-to-back successes with the Nou Campanar chapter.
Second prize went to the Convento Jerusalén chapter for 'Hagan fuego señores' by Paco López while Pere Baenas picked up third prize for 'Haciendo historia' paid for by the Exposición-Micer Mascó chapter.
Around 380 fallas are currently on show in Valencia city centre and will remain in place until Wednesday night, when they will all be burned down - except for one figurine from the winning entry that will enter the fallas museum. |
