Rescue teams managed to recover the body of a woman who fell into the sea and drowned yesterday lunchtime while out strolling along a clifftop path with her husband near Arteixo (A Coruña).

The tragedy occurred at around 1.25pm during a yellow level severe weather alert with extremely choppy sea conditions that seriously hampered initial rescue attempts.

Eventually, the body was recovered with the assistance of a emergency service helicopter rescue team and a coast guard rapid response dinghy.

The husband was treated at the scene for severe shock.
