| Unusually, bosses at Real Madrid CF have announced via the club's website that the 2010 Champions League final will be staged at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium prior to official communication of the decision by UEFA's Executive Committee.
The stadium has hosted three previous European Cup finals - 1957, 1969 and 1980 - and was the stage for the 1982 World Cup final between Italy and Germany.
Four months ago, the Santiago Bernabeu was granted 'UEFA Elite Stadium' status.
Wembley and stadiums in Berlin and Munich had also been on the shortlist for the 2010 final.
Rome's Olympic stadium has been chosen to stage the event next year. |
