| A 34 year old man was arrested in Santomera (Murcia) last night for the murder of his mother, Teresa Macanías Campillo (58). The man, Angelo CM, who has a long history of drug-related psychological problems, was arrested by two Local Police officers in the town's main church square carrying his mother's decapitated head in a tea towel.
When the bare-chested, and clearly disturbed, man was asked what was in the cloth, he had no hesitation in speaking about what he had done: "I killed her. She's silent, and I love her very much now."
He was handed over to Murcia Guardia Civil, who will be handling the investigation.
It seems that the victim, who managed a tobacco shop in the town square, had appeared on the TVE's 'Gente' public forum show recently to appeal for her son to be sectioned after a series of violent attacks on her, warning that, if something were not done, "something really serious" would happen.
Coincidentally, a local woman - Francisca González Navarro - was arrested in Santomera on January 18th 2002 for the murder of her two children (6 and 4), and is now serving a 40-year term. |
