| A bomb blast in Bilbao's La Peña district shortly after 6am this morning left seven regional police officers with minor injuries. The device, which was inside a briefcase that had the words 'Danger, bomb' chalked, or painted in white, on the outside, was found at 5.10am, twenty minutes before a warning call made by an ETA representative.
It had been left outside offices of the Basque socialist party (PSE-EE) on the calle Ibaialde. The immediate area was evacuated and no members of the public were harmed.
Four of the injured officers were cut by flying glass, one was knocked off his feet by the force of the blast while the other two suffered ear damage.
Twelve parked cars and a hairdressers next to the socialist HQ were also damaged by the blast, which also ruptured a water main.
This is the second attack by ETA on the La Peña district in recent months - on October 9th the bodyguard of a socialist councillor from Galdako (Vizcaya) was seriously injured in a car bomb attack on the calle Zamakola. |
