Ten others arrested as part of the same operation last Friday morning will appear before High Court judge, Fernando Grande Merlaska, later today.
According to an Interior ministry statement, the gang is accused of planning and carrying out explosive and incendiary missile attacks against state security agents, official buildings, the headquarters of political parties, banks, train stations and the rail network in general, other public transport systems and street furniture (benches, lampposts, rubbish bins etc.). Ten separatist saboteurs seized in overnight raids By: thinkSPAIN Friday, April 18, 2008
National Police officers carried out a series of raids in three towns - Errenteria, Oiartzun and Arrasate - in Guipúzcoa province last night that resulted in ten arrests.
A number of properties were searched, including the homes of all the detained as well as at least one 'herriko taberna' social centre.
The detained are suspected of having been responsible for more than twenty minor acts of sabotage over the last three years, including various attacks on electricity substations and an arson attack on Rentería train station.
The ten suspects are also believed to belong to the banned Segi Basque separatist movement.
The operation, which remains open, was ordered by High Court judge, Fernando Grande Merlaska.
The photo shows one of the detained, Haizea Iriarte, who was arrested at her home in the Plaza de La Alameda in Errentería. |
