A 45 year old British woman without previous convictions in Spain has been arrested by Spanish police in Benidorm on a European arrest warrant issued in Italy.
The woman, whose initials are AH, is accused of arranging assassinations, extorsion, usury and drugs trafficking for the Italian mafia, and faces a maximum jail term of around 24 years if convicted.
Her case is being dealt with by the High Court in Madrid.
