| A fire during the early hours of this morning on board a Moroccan ferry - 'Le Rif' - moored in Algeciras port forced the evacuation of the crew and 14 passengers - mostly long-distance lorry drivers - none of whom were injured. It seems that the fire started in one of the ferry's cargo holds though the cause is not known at this stage.
'Le Rif', which is registered in Casablanca, sails once a day from Algeciras to Tangiers and back again.
The incident has caused little disruption to the port's normal activity with only one Danish Petrol tanker - the 'ElbTank - which was supposed to dock at 2am, still anchored off shore, waiting for clearance to enter the North Dike where the damaged ferry has been moored since 10.40pm last night. |
