| An injured whale calf was rescued from Bikinis beach in Santander yesterday after a joint operation involving the Guardia Civil, the Red Cross and a female biologist from the Cantabrian Maritime Museum.
The museum's vice-president, Gerardo García Castrillo, explained that the three-metre long female Fin Whale, which weighs around 250kg, seems to have got caught up in fishing nets and was displaying a number of injuries, probably caused a propeller.
After being freed from the nets, it was towed out to deep water by a Zodiac dinghy and released.
It is believed that the young calf may have got separated from its mother during last week's storms. |
