| According to figures released today by the Employment and Immigration ministry, the unemployment total rose 37,542 (+1.6%) last month compared to end-March, to 2,338,517.
After the total dropped (-14,356) during March as a result of the Holy Week holiday, April sees the return of a downwards trend that characterised the previous five months.
By sector, the construction (+16,647, +5.2%) and service (+17,455, +1.2%) sectors were particularly hard hit last month.
Over the last twelve months, since the end of April 2007, unemployment has risen by a staggering 15.59% (+315,393). |
