An 85 year old woman was badly hurt this morning as she was having a bath at her home on the calle Libertad in Avilés city-centre.

When the bathroom floor of the rented first-floor flat, where she lives with her son, collapsed beneath her the woman plunged around twelve metres through the unoccupied ground floor, ending up in the basement below where she was found, still conscious but in tremendous pain, some time later - at around 10am - by her care assistant.

Among other injuries, the woman sustained a fractured hip and a broken bone in her left foot.

She is recovering at San Agustín Hospital.
