With Real Madrid already confirmed as champions and Villarreal as runners-up with the two minor Champions League placings going to Barcelona and Atlético Madrid, who secured their passage in front of their home fans yesterday with a nervy 1-0 win against Depor (photo), UEFA and Intertoto berths, as well as one ticket to the second division, remain at stake in next weekend's fascinating final round.

Four teams - Zaragoza, Osasuna, Recreativo and Valladolid (who play each other) - are involved in the battle to avoid joining Levante and Murcia in the second division next season.

After drawing 2-2 with the champions, Zaragoza must beat Mallorca while a draw would leave them depending on the results of Recre and Osasuna's matches.

Yesterday's 2-1 home victory against Murcia has dragged Osasuna out of the drop zone, but they must beat Racing or hope Zaragoza slip up.

A draw would be enough to save Valladolid as they take on fellow relegation strugglers Recreativo, who must win or hope Osasuna and Zaragoza both lose.

Despite beating local rivals Real Betis in yesterday's big derby game, Sevilla miss out on the final Champions League place, but are guaranteed one of the two UEFA Cup places.

Racing must beat Osasuna to secure the second, or failing that, hope that Mallorca, who fought back from 2-0 to beat Barça 2-3 at the Nou Camp last night, fail to beat Zaragoza.

Deportivo La Coruña must beat the mighty Villarreal at the Riazor to cement Intertoto qualification while Athletic Bilbao must beat Sevilla away from home and hope other results go their way.
