| A three-metre high, two-metre wide bronze sculpture was installed in the Plaza de la República Dominicana yesterday at the site of an ETA car bomb attack on July 14th 1986 that claimed the lives of twelve young Guardia Civil recruits.
Designed by Pedro Requejo Novoa and commissioned by the Foundation for the Defence of the Spanish Nationa (DENAES), it is the capital's only monument to the victims of the many attacks perpetrated there by the Basque separatist terrorist organisation.
Though the plinth was provided by the council, the sculpture itself, which will be inaugurated officially next Saturday, was paid for by a group of anonymous donors. |
