| Three Moroccan men have been arrested accused of kidnapping one of six illegal immigrants having previously organised their sea-crossing from North Africa.
Two of the detained - Zaid H (31) and Ismail B (24) - who both have previous illegal immigration convictions, have since been jailed after a preliminary hearing at San Bartlomé de Tirajana court.
It is alleged that, after their arrival, the six illegal immigrants - all of whom have since been detained - were taken to a construction site, where one of the men was kidnapped.
As a direct result of the arrests of the first two men - at Zaid H's Playa del Inglés apartment - the hostage was later rescued from a partially-completed tool shed on a banana plantation near Gáldar in the north of the island, where he was being held until his family met the gang's ransom demands.
The third member of the gang, Mohammed AZ (31), who has not been remanded into custody, also faces a drugs-trafficking charge after being found in possession of 50g cocaine at the moment of his arrest. |
