23/05/2008
The first two baby bear cubs born in the mountains of Palencia this year have been found by regional environmental officers.
They were first spotted with their mother in the valleys of the Pisuerga river delta in the Fuentes Carrionas Natural Park on April 24th since when they have been under surveillance by Brown Bear Foundation rangers, who describe the mother as a very large bear with blonde fur on her neck and head.
They also report that the cubs spend most of their time playing under the watchful eye of their mother.
Last year in the area, five cubs were born to three mothers.
