| 181 people were evacuated during the early hours of this morning from several hotels, campsites and residential properties in Torreón, a small village very close to Tarifa (Cádiz), as a forest-fire that started yesterday afternoon on Mount La Peña continued to blaze out of control.
So far, sixty hectares of scrubland, pasture and pine-tree nurseries have been destroyed on the mountainside, which falls within the boundaries of the Los Alcornocales Natural Park.
63 ground-based fire-fighters supported by six appliances and six helicopters, continue to battle the blaze this morning, but are being hampered in their efforts by strong winds with gusts of up to 45km an hour.
Alternative hotel accommodation has been arranged for the evacuees. |
