| According to a report in today's El País, Kike and Dani, a pair of Guardia Civil brothers on holiday in New York with their mother, have been sent a letter of thanks by the NYPD for capturing a dangerous criminal they had been hunting for for some time in a dramatic citizens' arrest near Madison Square Garden.
Out for a stroll on the final day of their holiday, the brothers' suspicions were raised when they heard cries for help and spotted a man running from a shopping centre.
After a short chase, they jumped on top of the suspect, patted him down to make sure he was not armed, handcuffed him to a large flower pot, and stayed with him until an astonished NYPD officer arrived on the scene.
"We are civil guards," they tried to explain in English until the arrival of a second officer, who spoke Spanish, and was able to take down their statement and contact details before they had to dash to the airport to catch their flight home. |
