Eight people were injured shortly after 12.30pm this afternoon when a bus collided with a jack-knifed lorry on the Bi-635 between Muxika and Gernika, forcing the road to be closed temporarily.

The bus rolled over, trapping three people inside, one of whom lost an arm, and was airlifted by helicopter to Cruces Hospital. His arm was later found and wrapped in ice in the hope that it can be re-attached.

Three others, including the two others who had to be cut free from the wreckage, were also hospitalised.

In total, 25 passengers had been travelling on the bus, which ended up on the train line linking Amorebieta and Bermeo, which was also temporarily closed while the track was cleared.
