A taxi driver from Castellón died in a head-on collision with a lorry this morning as he was driving the wrong way down the N-340 in Benicassim.

The drama started when a fellow taxi driver phoned Castellón Local Police at 6.15am to report that one of his colleagues had told him that he "wanted to commit suicide."

The man was tracked down at a filling station near Castellón General Hospital, but when officers tried to approach him, he threatened them with a knife before jumping in his taxi and setting off towards Benicassim on the wrong side of the road.

After a brief chase, the taxi diver collided with a lorry, causing both vehicles to burst into flames.

The lorry driver escaped unharmed though two Local Police officers were injured in a collision with the lorry.
